Book.
I recently published my first sketch book of kunanyi/Mt Wellington, called ‘Drawn to the Mountain’.
Each morning I awaken to a spectacular view of kunanyi, Mt Wellington and the Wellington Range from my home in Lindisfarne, Hobart. This has inspired me to capture the everchanging nature of the mountain and record its morphing majesty from differing locations.
I have also been drawn to capture the alpine area of the mountain. In contrast to the thickly forested lower slopes, the upper reaches of the mountain provide an exciting, dynamic canvas for the artist. Columns of dolerite, fields of boulders and lichen encrusted rocks. Low growing alpine vegetation and the spindly snow gums that cling to life in this wild landscape, frequently battered by south westerly weather, snow and ice.
This book is my homage to kunanyi / Mt Wellington.
Book Launch & Exhibition.
On Thursday, 2 June, Terry Gough launched my first sketch book, ‘Drawn to the Mountain’ and opened my first solo exhibition, the collection of all 46 original artworks of kyuanyi / Mt Wellington from the book. I was joined by family and friends in Hobart, Tasmania for this special occasion.
The exhibition ran throughout the month of June in 2022 at Wild Island (33 Salamanca Place, Hobart), with the original works, prints, cards and the book - showcasing a plethora of perspectives of kunanyi / Mt Wellington - available to purchase.
“There are so many highlights when it comes to this beautiful book... turning over every page, there is something really beautiful.
Nola has thought about not just her paintings but the matching of prose, verse, and quotations, and she has used them to link the connections of her art pieces. Her works speak for themselves. This is a true little gem of a book.”
